PASGT Olive Drab FLAK Fragmentation Jacket 1969 Vietnam

Brief History:

• PASGT (Personnel Armor System for Ground Troups) Vest and Helmet (sold separately) wer eintroduced in the early 1980's and are made of kevlar.  Referred to as Flak Vest or Flak Jacket but the formal name is  'Body Armor, Fragmentation Protection Vest Ground Troops
• This Flak Vest was a replacement and improvement on the Nylon vest of the Vietnam War period
• When PASGT Flak Vest was worn in combat conditions at 18-53% reduction in all fragmentation caused casualties was predicted and largely realized
  

Design components:

• Front opening design which protects upper torso of the body
• Ballistic fill consists of 13 plies of 14 oz water repellent treated Aramid (Kevlar 29) fabric
• The inner and out cover, shoulder pads and front closure flap of the vest are water repellent treated 8 oz. ballistic nylon
• Out outer cover is woodland camouflage printed and the inner cover is olive green
• Also available upon request are the Desert Tri-Color cover to make the flak jacket appropriate for desert conditions camouflage.  Email us if interested
• 3/4" collar
• Pivoting shoulder pads
• 2 front pockets
• 2 grenade hangers and a rifle butt pad in the front shoulder area
• Front and pocket flaps all have velcro closures
• Side overlaps are made flexible through the use of 1- 1/2" wide elastic webbing

Functionality:

• Improved ability to stop or slow down fragments 
• Comfortable because it is flexible due to both the materials as well as vest design.  The kevlar ballistic filler in the back is made in four sections; the three upper back sections slide over each other and over the lower back section to allow for any changes in body dimensions associated with various movement.  It has excellent compatibility with other clothing and individual equipment.
