Of special interest is the fact that third pattern jungle fatigues were first produced in poplin cotton with very limited ripstop production occurring in late 1967 with the first contract for ripstop pants. However in mid / late 1968, the more durable ripstop had taken over the majority of production and 1969 saw the end of poplin production as manufacturers finished out early 3rd pattern contracts with stock poplin material on hand. Despite the manufacturing shift to ripstop, poplin remained the most commonly encountered OD jungle fatigues through 1968 simply due to the volume that had been produced. By 1969, you see ripstop (not the poplin version) in the field in large numbers though poplin can be found in use throughout the end of the war.
Poplin is a plain-weave cotton fabric with very fine hoizontal 'ribs,' or yarns that results in a strong, crisp fabric with a silky lustrous surface.
The set is in good shape as can be seen in the many photos. The last few photos show a repaired tear in the left shoulder that happened at some point when a unit patch was removed, this is the only tear anywhere on the set and has been professionally repaired.
Both pieces are 'Cotton Wind Resistant Ripstop Poplin, OG-107
